“International Workshop on Tamil Research through Computer Technology” was conducted on October 8, 2018 in Department of Linguistics, Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu in collaboration with TAMIL UNITED, Mechaniscburg-USA. The Inaugural Function was started at 10.15 am. Prof. V.M. Subramanian, Head of the Department of Linguistics, Bharathiar University welcomed the guests and the audience. Prof. Dr. K. Karunakaran, Former Vice-chancellor, Tamil University, Thanjavur inaugurated the workshop and Prof. A. Kamatchi , Secretary, Tami Unlimited offered felicitation. Dr. N. Ramesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Linguistics, Bharathiar University gave vote of thanks. The Inaugural Function was followed by a technical session. Prof. S. Rajendran, Amrita University, Coimbatore delivered a lecture on “Computational Lexical Semantics” by showing a demo on “Tamil Onto-thesaurus”. Prof. A. Kamatchi delivered a lecture on “Grammatical Corpus for Tamil” substantiating it with a demo. Dr. K. Umaraj Assistant Professor, Department of Madurai Kamaraj University delivered a lecture on “Making Dictionary for Sangam Tamil”. His lecture covered many aspects of Tamil computing including speech analysis. Dr. Durai Manikandan of Bharathidasan University Constituent College, Tiruchirappalli delivered a lecture on “How to create a Blog?”. It was a very useful one as many participants learned through his active demonstration how to make a blog. All the lectures were very useful and well received by the audience. The Valedictory Function was held on the same day after the technical session. Dr. N. Ramesh welcomed the gathering. Dr. P. Thirunavukkarasu, Member, Vice-Chancellor’s Committee, Bharathiar University delivered the valedictory address and distributed the certificates. Dr. K. Umaraj, delivered a special address. Dr.V.M. Subramanian gave vote of thanks. Nearly 70 registered participants attended the workshop and received certificates. According to their feedback the workshop was very useful. They wanted it to be a long one. Thanks to Mrs. Suganthi Nadar the founder of Tamil Unlimited for sponsoring the program. I have learnt that TAMIL UNLIMITED is running such programs throughout Tamil Nadu for promoting Tamil Computing. Hats off to it.
